Somnia Playground: From Dream to Reality

The Somnia Playground is a web-based platform that allows anyone to quickly generate their own virtual space and invite their friends. Future updates will bring new abilities, like object creation and building, and it will only continue to get better and more advanced over time.

The Playground launch is part of our Betanet, building on other initiatives and product releases that are intended to test Somnia’s protocols. In the later Devnet stage, we will start to test the blockchain, but the Betanet is focused on the protocols that will enable interoperability across virtual worlds and platforms.

Our Betanet began with an avatar minting process, and over 500,000 avatars have been created since launch. We also launched the Metaverse Browser, which allows users to easily navigate Somnia experiences directly through their browser. Now, with the launch of The Playground, users can start the process of creating their own virtual worlds. The process is entirely free, and does not require ownership of any land or any other NFTs.

The Playground Shines A Spotlight on MML

Today we want to give you a look behind the scenes at the development process, and tell the story about how this all came together.

One of the tools that Somnia is leveraging to create a virtual society is MML, which allows for interoperability of visual objects between different worlds and platforms. MML is a powerful new programming language, and to show everyone how cool it is, Somnia wanted to create an environment that allowed people to experiment with it and experience it for themselves.

One of the key features that we are building towards is showing how MML can be used to build a new thing from separate objects, or in other words, users will have the ability to remix and recompose digital objects.

The environments, avatars and items in the Playground are all MML objects. The avatars are a very good example of how MML enables interoperability across these worlds. In future updates, users will be able to do deeper experimentations with MML, creating their own objects and contributing to the creator economy.

With Somnia’s interoperability tools, users will be able to sell their creations through a decentralized marketplace, allowing other users to remix and recompose the content once they’ve purchased it.

Currently, the best example of interoperability on the Somnia Betanet is our collaboration with the Grillz Gang NFT collection. Thanks to the magic of MML, the entire Grillz Gang collection now has corresponding 3D avatars that can explore Somnia enabled worlds. This has been a massive achievement for our team because it is a major challenge to compress 3D assets without compromising on quality, but we have managed to pull it off!

The Future of The Playground

There is much more coming to the Somnia Playground in future updates. Somnia believes in building in public so our community can experiment as we go and give us feedback, making Somniacs an important part of the development process.

Soon we will have more NFT collections that will be able to explore the Virtual Society as 3D avatars, and users will also have the ability to display their NFTs in the Somnia Playground. We will also be adding digital objects to the environments that users can interact with.

As more features roll out, the Somnia Playground will become a space of infinite creativity, with more and more avenues for experimentation and collaboration. Jump into the Sonnia Playground today and start completing quests for your chance to win points and USDT prizes!

Stay updated with Somnia
